About Mike Bias

I'm a dedicated Christian, a loving husband to my wife Julie and father to our son Jerimy, a constitutional conservative, and a 20+ year Lawrence County front-lines veteran who deeply believes in Appalachian values of faith, family, hard work, and self-reliance. Having lived here for more than half my life, Lawrence County and its people have shaped who I am. I served as a deacon at Raceland Christian Church, and my front-line experience runs deep: I've served as an ER Resource Nurse at St. Mary's Medical Center, a paramedic supervisor with Lawrence County EMS — including leading Ohio's first Tactical EMS Team — a volunteer firefighter, and a Medicolegal Death Investigator with the Lawrence County Coroner's Office. I've been there in the darkest hours — on ambulances at all hours, in the ER during crises, and supporting grieving families. That experience gives me unmatched insight into public safety, the drug epidemic, and the real needs of our first responders and families.

Before moving into healthcare, I spent years in the private sector as Operations Manager at a Huntington-based technology firm, and in earlier roles in network engineering and IT. I managed complex multi-hundred-thousand-dollar state contracts, budgets, logistics, and teams — delivering every project on time and under budget with a relentless focus on efficiency and results. That same fiscal discipline and problem-solving mindset is what I'll bring to county government.

I didn't set out to run for office. I set out to help people — one call, one shift, one family at a time.

But after 20 years on the front lines of this county, I've watched the same problems get kicked down the road year after year. Our first responders are stretched thin — and we're losing the ones we train. The unemployment numbers look better on paper, but that's because people are leaving the workforce, not because we're bringing good jobs back. And the big decisions — the Lock 27 project, the data center deals — the public is kept in the dark while insiders (or outsiders) make the call. Our county's data is public, but it's not transparent.

I'm running because I've spent my whole life showing up when people need help. And I'm not about to stop now. Our family, your family, and our kids need this.

Lawrence County deserves a commissioner who's been in the trenches. Who asks the hard questions and gives straight answers. Who will invest in our children's future — so they don't have to leave home to find one. Who puts the people first — not the politics, not the insiders — the people.

My priorities are simple:

• Transparency — including my personal No NDA Pledge and a champion for the county to adopt the Ohio Checkbook model

• Fiscal Responsibility — protecting taxpayers and presenting resolutions to ease property tax hikes when assessments skyrocket

• Economic Development — unlocking The Point Industrial Park, the Ironton Gateway, and good jobs so our kids can build a future here

• Strong Public Safety — supporting our fire, EMS, law enforcement, 911, and defending the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens

• Drug Crisis & Recovery-to-Work — confronting addiction with compassion and real workforce reintegration

• Healthcare Access & Rural Telehealth — closing the gap between our hollers and quality care, backed by 20 years on the front lines

• Board of DD & Vulnerable Families — standing with families relying on our Board of Developmental Disabilities after the levy failure, and demanding real answers on the regional plan before Lawrence County hands over local control over how we care for our most vulnerable neighbors

• Broadband — bringing real connectivity to every township, because you can't grow jobs, telehealth, or a future here on a dead signal

• Over 20 years of front-line service: Volunteer firefighter, Paramedic Supervisor, Chaplain, ER Resource Nurse (RN, BSN, CEN), death investigator, Tactical EMS Captain, and EMA Disaster Assessment Volunteer

• Former Operations Manager, Hourly Computer Services, Inc. (Huntington, WV) — managed large state technology contracts including the Office of the Governor, WV DEP, and WVDHHR, with zero missed deadlines and zero overruns

• Currently pursuing a MSN degree specializing in Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) at Youngstown State University

• Plans to open a comprehensive primary care practice in Lawrence County (primary care, mental health, weight loss, and HRT) — I will fully disclose this interest and recuse myself from any related Commission votes
